Familia First: Unveiling the Exclusive Coco Collection at Shoe Palace

Shoe Palace is excited to unveil its inaugural collection with Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios for "Coco”.

"Coco" is a beautifully crafted animated film that celebrates the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos. It follows Miguel, a young boy with a deep love for music, who longs to become a famous musician despite his family's ban on music. When he finds himself in the enchanting Land of the Dead, Miguel embarks on a magical journey to discover his family's hidden history and the true meaning of remembrance. With its vibrant visuals, captivating music, and touching themes of family and heritage, "Coco" offers a heartwarming tribute to the bonds that transcend life and death.

The collection features a diverse range of apparel, including tees, hoodies, jackets, and other premium pieces. At the core of this partnership is the theme of “familia,” reflecting the collection's emphasis on family and connection. Iconic elements such as the Mexican Sarape and Gaban pay homage to heritage, while the spirit of Mariachi music inspires select designs.

Our marketing approach for this collection is equally special. We partnered with Rocio Rivera, a Bay Area photographer celebrated for her authentic imagery. Now residing in Mexico City, Rocio has extensive experience capturing the essence of Mexican culture. We knew she would be the perfect fit to organically portray the spirit of Día de los Muertos, a theme central to our collection, which symbolizes family and remembrance of loved ones.

To authentically showcase this collection, we chose Sinaloa, Mexico—the birthplace of Rocio's family. In mid-September, we traveled there with Johnny Espinoza, a talented Bay Area videographer with roots in Guadalajara, Jalisco. His cinematic style perfectly aligned with our vision, making the trip all the more meaningful.

We began our journey in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, capturing the vibrant scenery, markets, and plazas before heading south to Agua Verde, Rocio’s hometown. The photoshoot aimed to encapsulate genuine moments with her family as they exemplify how they celebrate Día de los Muertos, featuring her aunt, cousins, uncles, and grandmother. One particularly poignant moment involved her uncle visiting his father’s tombstone while wearing our varsity jacket emblazoned with “Familia.” This touching scene resonated deeply with Rocio’s family, and we believe it will strike a chord with our audience as well.

As we celebrate memories, traditions, and culture, there is no better backdrop than Mexico to bring this collection to life. The Coco collection will be available at Shoe Palace stores and on shoepalace.com starting October 11, just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month and Día de los Muertos. Join us in honoring family and tradition with this enchanting collection!
