Macaulay Culkin might just be the biggest child star of all-time. He became a superstar in 1990 when he starred in the classic film, Home Alone. He would also headline the film’s successful sequel. One of his forgotten projects today is Richie Rich.
Richie Rich
Richie Rich was released in 1994. It is based on the classic comic character.
The character debuted in comics in 1953. He was created by Alfred Harvey and Warren Kremer. Richie Rich was a hit practically from the start.
Richie Rich would also have his own Saturday Morning cartoon, and a ton of merchandise made.
Richie Rich is the richest kid in the world. Even though he is incredibly privileged, he is also charitable and kind. Over the years he has been updated and turned into more of an action hero in media.
The most iconic version of the character is the young boy with blonde hair, a waistcoat, bow tie and shorts. His endless supply of money gives him the opportunity to go anywhere and own anything he wants. He is beloved by children who dream of such riches.
Culkin
Culkin seemed like dream casting when he landed the role of Rich. The child star was a household name and portraying an animated icon seemed like a no brainer for success. Unfortunately, the movie did not hit big at the box office.
The reviews also were not strong. The film seemed to sour Culkin on acting, he would not appear in a movie again for nearly 10 years. By then, he was an adult.
Legacy
Many kids from the nineties loved the Richie Rich movie when it came out on VHS and watched it on cable TV. Richie Rich the character is still iconic and appears on apparel and other merchandise. You can find exclusive Richie Rich apparel at Shoe Palace stores and on shoepalace.com.
