Stephen King is one of the top horror minds of all-time. He has written numerous classic novels that have terrified readers for decades now. One of his most famous works is IT. The novel was released in 1986.
The Story
Seven friends reunite in Derry, Maine years after being teenagers and battling an evil creature. The creature preyed on the city’s children.
The creature known as IT is the sworn enemy of The Losers Club. Children are once again being murdered, and the Losers Club must deal with their repressed memories and battle IT again as adults. IT’s favorite form is Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Adaptations
IT would become a bestseller and one of King’s most popular books. In 1990, it would be adapted for a television miniseries.
The series was mostly well received, with Tim Curry’s performance as Pennywise being one of the standouts. But the film was limited by airing on television in terms of how far it could go with the content and violence. It was also restricted due to the special effects of the era.
In 2017, director Andrés Muschietti released his first IT film. It would be followed by IT Chapter Two in 2019.
The films were closer to the book in terms of content and intensity. Both films were massive hits and Bill Skarsgård was universally praised for his performance as Pennywise. Currently, more IT projects are in development.
Legacy
The 2017 and 2019 films have boosted IT to an iconic franchise. Pennywise has become a beloved horror character. The character now ranks alongside Freddy Krueger, Jason, and Chucky as a legend of horror and the Halloween season.
You can find Pennywise costumes, toys, and apparel in retail stores around the world. Shoe Palace will celebrate the 2017 and 2019 films with a special clothing collection. This collection is only available at Shoe Palace stores and on shoepalace.com.
